À propos de Masa
I was born in Tokyo and later moved to Australia, where I completed postgraduate studies in education, specialising in Japanese language teaching. I have lived in Australia for a total of 18 years and have been based in Switzerland for over 10 years.
I live in Switzerland with my German wife and our two young sons, both born here, who are currently attending local primary school and enjoy activities such as karate.
Over the years, I have been involved in international education and cross-cultural collaboration between Europe, Japan, and Australia, working with universities, public institutions, and industry partners. Earlier in my career, I also held leadership roles in both the UK and Japanese corporate contexts, including positions as a director in Japan and as a branch manager in Australia. Living and working across different cultures has given me a strong understanding of the challenges and rewards of learning a new language and adapting to a different environment.
I aim to create a learning experience that is supportive, practical, and adapted to each individual, helping learners feel comfortable and confident in their progress.

With a background as a former specially appointed professor and director of an international centre at a public university in Japan, and holding an Australian government accredited postgraduate teaching qualification in Japanese language teaching, I offer structured and practical Japanese lessons for students, professionals, and anyone interested in learning Japanese for real-life use. I have taught Japanese across a range of educational settings, including universities, vocational colleges, and high schools in Australia, as well as in adult education in Switzerland, including at Migros Klubschule. Lessons are tailored to your individual needs, whether for study, professional use, relocation to Japan, travel, or cultural understanding. All lessons are conducted in clear and supportive English, helping you understand grammar, structure, and cultural nuances with confidence. The first session is used as a short consultation to understand your goals and design an effective learning plan. My approach combines structured learning, practical communication, and real-world context, so you can not only understand Japanese, but use it effectively and confidently in everyday situations.
